Twenty-five years after Eric Bieniemy's legendary high school playing career at traditional powerhouse Bishop Amat in La Puente, Calif., rivalries still run deep when he walks into conference foe Crespi Carmelite in Encino.

'We've forgiven him. In fact, we're thinking about giving him a brown-and-white shirt,' said Crespi coach Jon Mack last week, referring to the school's colors.

Bieniemy and wide receivers coach Bobby Kennedy needed no introduction to Mack when they visited Crespi. The CU duo, and coaches from several other high-profile schools, are battling for Crespi all-time receiving leader Devin Lucien.

Mack has coached on the Southern California high school circuit for 27 of the past 30 years. He wanted to check out Bieniemy a little more. The high school coach called a former player, Lorenzo Booker, who was on the Minnesota Vikings roster this season when Bieniemy coached him."
